While he was there, I also asked about replacing my aging central air conditioner and furnace. He provided an unbeatable price, and I decided to move forward. • We hired Dave Heating & Cooling to install appliances in our new build after seeing their website advertise “trained technicians,” “precision and speed,” and expertise in appliance installation. Our experience was the complete opposite. We hired them to install 2 dishwashers, 2 washer/dryer combos, a drawer microwave, double wall oven, and fridge. They were late multiple times without notice, and during the initial site visit, the supervisor spent bulk of the appointment complaining about other trades from former projects rather than discussing an installation plan. When they returned, three technicians spent 3–4 hours onsite. Despite having multiple appliances to install, all three were focused on a single machine at once. They eventually installed both washer/dryer combos, but neither dishwasher, the microwave, oven, nor fridge were completed. We paid them $575 for their time, and the amount of progress made was extremely disappointing. The worst part involved our brand-new Bosch 800 Series dishwasher that costed us $2,500 + tax). Their technicians needlessly drilled two holes into the side of the machine. Another installer later told us those holes came dangerously close to permanently disabling the dishwasher. A week later (today), we discovered they had left sharp metal shavings inside the dishwasher, which were never cleaned up. Those shavings have already caused rust to form inside a brand-new appliance before its first use. The drill holes themselves are also incredibly sharp. This is not just poor workmanship—it is property damage and a serious health and safety concern. We do not even know whether we were able to remove all of the metal debris, meaning there is now a real risk of sharp metal fragments or rust contaminating dishes, utensils, or anything washed inside the machine. We do not feel safe using this appliance at all and don’t even know where to start to undo this mess. We like to learn about our trades before hiring them, so it was especially frustrating to see that Dave’s own website even says: “If you don’t install the appliance properly, you will damage the product before even using it.” That is exactly what happened to us. We paid $575 for incomplete work, damaged equipment, and an unsafe appliance. At minimum, we expected competence. Instead, we’re now paying to undo their work and assess the damage. We cannot recommend their appliance installation services.

• I contacted four different companies for quotes and timelines to replace my aging AC unit during a warm week in early March. Around 10:00 AM on a weekday, the other companies I spoke with couldn’t even schedule a visit for another 1–2 weeks. When I called Dave, he said he was on his way to another job but could stop by quickly to take a look—and he showed up within 30 minutes. He provided a very competitive quote, was informative without being pushy, and his integrity was immediately clear. While I’m not an HVAC expert, it was obvious I was dealing with someone honest and knowledgeable. I called the next day to move forward, and Dave and his team had the unit installed by that Friday. From inspection to installation, everything was completed in just three days—at a price significantly lower than the other companies I contacted, who couldn’t even come out to assess the job. Update: On April 13, when I turned the unit on for the first time this season, it wasn’t working. I called Dave at 7:30 PM, and he initially offered to come first thing in the morning. When I explained I don’t get home from work until 7 PM, he said no problem—I’ll come now. He showed up, diagnosed the issue, fixed it—and didn’t charge me a dime. Service, quality, and integrity. Essex County needs more companies like Dave’s Heating & Cooling.
