I rarely leave Google reviews. But my experience over the past few days with Stafford/Hero was so good I had to say something. We live in a 100 year old house and are very committed to keeping it in good shape. We saw Stafford technicians twice in the past week, once for a routine matter and once for a very puzzling problem. Both times, both with David and with Alexandre, we were impressed with their skill, their professionalism and their commitment. David encountered an unanticipated problem - and kept working creatively until it was resolved. Alexandre saw that the difficulty was complicated and not largely electric. He traced the problem, looking for clues and found a non-obvious issue. He suggested a helpful solution. We are impressed with their skills and determination - and very grateful.

Jake from Hero provided exceptional service today. He was able to diagnose and fix a 2-way light switch issue that his colleague was unable to fix previously. He is super knowledgeable and recommended that a surge protector be added on my electrical panel, to protect my appliances, electronics, and LED lightbulbs from power surges that can damage these household items. He is an expert, kind, and professional. Jake at Hero will be on speed dial for any future electrical projects at my home.

Stafford home services retrofitted my hundred year-old Minneapolis home With a heat pump system. Nick gave us the quote and he was great to work with and Kyle did the installation. He was very meticulous and great to work with. All the staff were very personable, but clearly Kyle went the extra mile to make things go well. I would recommend Stafford home service without reservation. I initially gave this a five star review based on installation. 9 month addendum: About Mitsubishi systems. For the most part we enjoyed cool conditioned air throughout the summer. However there have been challenges. Controlling the temperature has not been easy. The system was set up so that the individual room wall units used the thermostat on each unit to control the temperature in that room. This was plainly awful! When heating rooms got too warm and when cooling rooms got too cool. (e.g. room set to heat to 72 but room temperature was 78). The solution (after reading multiple online articles) was a remote room thermostat. It was hard to convince Stafford technicians that this was the solved the problem. Mitsubishi has an app for remote control, Mitsubishi Comfort. This app is nice because it gives remote control of the system. Unfortunately the app is not great and it has taken multiple trials at various settings to get everything set up correctly. The individual units connect to the app via home WiFi. Unfortunately, and none of the technicians or managers knew this it requires a dedicated 2.4 GHz WiFi network. I had to buy a new WiFi router that has such a SSID. Getting a new router with a 2.4 GHz SSID, often called IOT(Internet of things) solved connectivity problems $400. Overall assessment of the Mitsubishi system at best 3 stars. Soon after the system was installed Stafford Home Services was bought out by a private equity company and merged with Hero plumbing and heating. It seems like many of the employees from Stafford left as ongoing problems were addressed by people unfamiliar with our system. They have been courteous and although they were reluctant to put in the remote thermostats they ultimately did and solved issues. I still have one room where I would like a remote thermostat but they have been reluctant to do so. Last night the drain on air handler in our attic plugged up and the drainage fluid accumulated in the pan below the unit. There is supposed to be a water sensor in the pan to shut the unit off, but this failed and we had water leaking through the ceiling into our bedroom. I called Stafford (now Hero) and talked with the most annoying AI voice. I have an appointment for tomorrow morning but I emphasized that I had water actively leaking. I asked to talk to a real person and was told I would get a call. No one called. In the end I climbed into the attic to empty the water in the pan and stop the water entering our room. I’m almost 72 and am recovering from bilateral knee replacement and this was not easy. Both Stafford and Hero had/have wonderful reputations. One would think that after hours now merged they would have a real person available to talk to and emergency services as needed. My review is the merged company now owned by private equity 4/5 until last night now at best 1/5 stars. 10 month addendum As I mentioned above, temperature control was very difficult. I called Stafford home service and had another technician come out. The technician’s name was Dan and he listened to me carefully and then spent well over an hour doing some diagnostics. He discovered that during initial installation, one setting had been mistakenly entered. Once fixed, the system has worked perfectly. They did add the final thermostat which I greatly appreciate for the first time. The system is Living up to my expectations. I hope this is my final review because it seems to be working very well right now. My review at this time is four out of five stars. I’m still very frustrated with the AI answering service and I still have concerns about after hours availability but I very much appreciate Dan’s skills.

Stafford did a fabulous job removing and replacing my old air conditioner plus a newer mini-split, with a single large mini-split that can heat and cool my entire home. The work iincluded dismantling and removing two separate air handlers, one in the attic and the other in the basement, and then installing new air handlers in those same locations. It was a ton of work, involving two hard-working, knowledgeable and personable HVAC installers who were on site for two full days, as well as two electricians. It was a big job and they handled it beautifully! The team was quiet, friendly, and expert at their work. They cleaned up beautifully, both inside and out, leaving no trace of attic insulation, discarded materials, etc. They arrived on time and finished their work in the timeframe they estimated. Plus, the cost, although expensive, was quite reasonable considering the work and materials involved. I got a second quote from another well-known local HVAC provider before contracting with Stafford, and the second company told me they couldn't do the work for the price that Stafford was asking. I am an extremely pleased customer. Kyle and Doug did a super job! I highly recommend them.
