• UPDATE – September 2026 Atmosphere has now responded publicly. Unfortunately, their response includes a version of events contradicted by their own emails. They state that I spent “more than a month” exploring other pricing before proceeding. On November 23, after receiving the approximately $5,500 quote, I asked for compressor information for due diligence. When the business owner suggested I was shopping around, I replied, “It’s not to shop around.” Four days later, on November 27, I authorized the repair and expedited shipping. The business owner said he would “get the compressor ordered right away.” The month-plus delay occurred after authorization, not while deciding. Their description of the diagnosis also differs from what was communicated. The proposal was for a “replacement compressor,” and the business owner stated the quote included “replacing the compressor.” When the second technician attended, I was told the compressor was operating within specification and the leak was on a line leading to it. More importantly, the diagnosis was never the primary reason for this review. In January 2024, I wrote to the business owner, praised the second technician, raised my concerns and asked for a satisfactory path forward. No response. I followed up in February and said I wanted to continue using Atmosphere for future maintenance. Again, no response. Two years later, I contacted Atmosphere again and discovered my address was on their do-not-service list. I could have accepted an explanation that HVAC diagnosis can be complicated. Instead, my concerns were ignored, service refused, and their public timeline contradicts their own emails. That lack of professional accountability remains the reason for this review. ORIGINAL REVIEW We used Atmosphere Climate Control to maintain our HVAC system after purchasing our home in 2022 (Hammonds Plains). Unfortunately, our experience ultimately left us extremely disappointed with how the company handled a legitimate service concern. In November 2023, one of their technicians diagnosed our system as having a failed compressor. The quoted cost to replace the compressor, including labour, was approximately **$5,500**. We paid approximately $250 for the diagnosis and then operated the system in emergency mode for roughly 40 days while waiting for the replacement. When another Atmosphere technician attended in January 2024, he determined that the compressor was actually operating within specification and that the problem was a refrigerant leak on a line leading to the compressor. In other words, we had spent more than a month believing we were facing a $5,500 compressor replacement based on an incorrect diagnosis. I emailed the owner in January 2024 to explain what had happened and ask how the company intended to address the incorrect diagnosis and the resulting expense and inconvenience. The email was professional and specifically acknowledged and thanked the second technician for correctly diagnosing the problem. I received no response. I followed up again in February and again received no response. Despite that experience, I eventually decided to put the matter behind me. In 2026, I contacted Atmosphere again to arrange routine service for the system. When the appointment did not materialize and I followed up, I was informed that my address had been placed on their do-not-service list. That was particularly disappointing. A customer raised a legitimate concern privately and professionally, gave the company an opportunity to respond, received no response whatsoever, and then discovered that the company's solution was apparently to refuse future service at the address. Companies and technicians can make mistakes. What matters is how a business responds when a customer raises a reasonable concern. In our case, there was no explanation, no attempt to resolve the issue, and not even the courtesy of a response. Discovering two years later that the property had instead been flagged for no future service is ultimately what prompted me to share this experience publicly.
