• One of my commercial tenants called these scammers while I was out of town earlier this week. Tech gassed up a system that was at ambient without pulling a vacuum and ignored a rub out on the copper line in the condenser which was clearly evident from the oil trace running down by the valves. Bill: $1,600 for a few pounds of refrigerant that blew back out by the next morning. Tech notes talk about the system going out and needing a new coil which was all BS to support an unnecessary upsell. Today, I sent a legitimate tech out who silver soldered the rub out, pressurized with nitrogen to check for leaks, pulled a vacuum, and recharged the system. Bill: $450.

• I used Burkhardt AC for years and even recommended them to my clients on many occasions. Until I realized they were severely overcharging me. This last visit for the winter service they found I needed a new limit switch and told me it would be $407 to replace. They wouldn't tell me the cost of the switch. I found out it was quite cheap under $20. I found a reputable company who came out the next day and replaced both switches in the unit for $178. I'll never use or recommend them again. Buyer beware.
