• I put in a claim for both my home air conditioning units due to not cooling properly. I paid the $100 per unit deductible with American Home Shield and they sent All American AC & Heating out to diagnose the issue. After the inspection, I was told by the technician that both evaporator coils were leaking and needed to be replaced. He specifically stated that since our units are only 7 years old, the evaporator coils would be covered by either Lennox or American Home Shield under warranty, but I may have to pay for the additional freon needed to recharge the system. I point blank asked him if this is all my systems needed and no other repairs needed to be done and he said just the evaporator coils and freon. Two days later, I got an email stating that my out of pocket expense would be $2,119 for each unit due to "modifications" that are needed also to complete the repairs. Any "modifications" that are needed to complete the repairs are specifically excluded under my plan. I have the Shield Gold plan with American Home Shield. Again, there was no mention of any modifications needed by the technician while he was at my house. Only that the evaporator coils will be covered but I will have to pay for additional freon not covered. I finally receive the estimate from All American after weeks of requesting it which states that my system needs “drain line, float switch, and plenum" modifications for both units plus freon which equates to the $4,238 out of pocket to repair both my units. Again, my systems are only 7 years old. As I stated before, the technician’s evaluation of the systems was evaporator coils and recharge the systems when on site. He did not diagnose any modifications that were needed at the time of inspection and I specifically asked him if that was all my systems needed were the coils and recharge. When the technician left my house, he said that All American would submit my claim to American Home Shield and let me know what is covered. Nothing was left with me in writing documenting any issues or repairs needed. Be careful if All American comes out to your house and diagnoses your issue and make sure to get everything in writing before they leave. Especially with any home warranty companies involved.
