"Nick and Vasyl provided an outstanding experience from start to finish. They arrived right on time, were respectful of our home, and worked efficiently to swap out our old furnace in a surprisingly short amount of time. What stood out most was how thoroughly Nick and Vasyl explained the new system and controls before heading out. Very pleased with their quality work!"

We just received a new heating and air conditioning system from Detroit Heating and cooling. They were here early and ready to get the job done. This is Charles wife, I can't figure out how to put the review under my name. Zach, Joel and Justin were great and had me up and running great. I also like to mention Jackie she has been here for service and always did a great job. I appreciate all the office staff as well; they guided me though the whole process from start to finish.

My service technician was on time, extremely thorough, explained what she saw ( yes I said SHE), provided education on things I can do to prolong the life of my furnace. And had a very pleasant personality.

Jackie Barr was great, as usual. She installed a blower motor and the main circuit board (she diagnosed the problem too) in an hour (i.e. quickly) checked the HVAC operations, said goodby and let herself out. Smooth and easy!

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! My HVAC system was done without a permit from the city. I’ve had issues and no one is calling back after I called to discuss my system issue. Kayla did call me back which I have the voicemail for that telling me that the unit they replaced didn’t need a secondary drain pan cause it was in the basement but the unit in my basement is not replaced and is probably 20 years old. When I told her it was not the basement unit and she said she would call me back and didn’t. They placed my second floor HVAC system without a secondary drain pan. Unfortunately, I didn’t find out that this was done incorrectly until I had an inspection/Winter tune up. Had the company pulled a permit from the city and it was inspected like it should’ve been done then this wouldn’t be an issue right now. The sad part about this is I am not an HVAC specialist so I trusted this company to do things correctly.

Based on the positive reviews, I genuinely thought Detroit Heating and Cooling Co. would be a reliable company to work with. Unfortunately, this has turned into one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with a “professional” company. Our service request was submitted through American Home Shield, on June 9, 2026. It took until June 20, 2026 for a technician to finally come to our home. While the technician completed the visit, that is where the communication completely stopped. As of today, it has been two full weeks since the technician’s visit, and we have still not received a diagnosis, a service report, or any explanation of what is wrong with our HVAC system. This has left us completely in the dark and unable to move forward with repairs. We’ve been calling American Home Shield every single day trying to get updates, but Detroit Heating and Cooling Co. has never answered a single phone call, never returned a voicemail, and has completely ignored our emails. The lack of communication and professionalism has been beyond frustrating. I understand that delays can happen, but there is absolutely no excuse for leaving customers without answers for weeks while refusing to communicate in any way. At this point, it feels like we’ve been completely forgotten. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this entire experience has been incredibly disappointing and has shown a complete disregard for customer service. If you’re considering using Detroit Heating and Cooling Co., especially through a home warranty company, I would strongly recommend choosing another contractor if you have the option. Update: In all honesty, the only reason I am updating my review from a 1-star to a 3-star rating is because of the technicians, Tyler and Cody. They are both absolutely awesome and deserve recognition for their work. However, although they (finally!!!) completed everything that needed to be done, the entire process was a mess from start to finish, with even more communication issues, nonexistent “prioritization,” and a list of other things that went wrong along the way. Tyler and Cody are great guys, though, and they genuinely saved this review from staying at 1 star. They both definitely deserve a raise!

Don't trust this company. Our central air broke down on July 16th, and this company was dispatched through our home warranty. The technician refused to do a standard window or insulation walkthrough. Instead, they tried to force an unapproved equipment size upgrade from our existing 3-ton system to an oversized 4-ton system, claiming massive structural home modifications were required. I measured our main supply trunk line, which is 9x21 and physically maxes out at a standard 3-ton capacity. A 4-ton system would have destroyed our airflow and frozen our coils. A second-opinion contractor confirmed that a standard 3-ton replacement was all that was needed, requiring zero duct alterations. Be incredibly careful with this company's sizing recommendations and always get a second opinion."

I had a very disappointing experience with Detro Heating Cooling. I called to request a quote, and the person who answered was extremely rude from the start. She didn’t even bother to take my information and abruptly hung up on me. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable, especially for a business trying to gain new customers. Based on this interaction alone, I would not recommend them.

Great company, all the way from the schedulers to the technicians! Great communication, stellar work, dedicated to helping you understand what’s being done and not trying to push sales the whole time. Thank you so much for repairing and replacing our AC!

I see they deleted my review after they refused my contract with American Home Shield. Why be a contractor for them if you’re not going to honor the contract with them?

I needed to have my AC and Furnace replaced (both were 49 years old) and went through my home warranty (AHS) and Detroit Heating and Cooling (DHC) was our assigned contractor. The process through AHS was very slow. I continually needed to reach out to to DHC for follow up because I would hear nothing from AHS. The folks at DHC were very helpful in explaining the process and were attentive to all my questions. Big shoutout to Mark at DHC in particular, who gave me his personal cell number when I had a ton of questions as I was jumping through hoops with AHS to get my AC/Furnace replaced. He was wonderful to work with and was a big help navigating AHS. He was quick to return calls and send over estimates. 10/10 would recommend. Now onto the install: Zach and Justin were fantastic! They came on time and were very professional. Given the age of my old HVAC system (49 years old), it took them some time to dismantle everything and to reconfigure the new units. It took them almost 13 hours to complete everything, but they got the job done. I told Zach at the end of the install that I felt bad that they stayed as late as they did and he replied with, "that's just what we do man!" Super thankful to the both of them for getting the install done. Overall, if you're utilizing a home warranty then expect the process to be slow. It seems like a lot of the waiting revolved around AHS being slow, NOT DHC. DHC is a great choice and I would use them again!

Revised 08 July 2026: Detroit Heating and Cooling was sent to address a substandard contractors call for service on an AC unit from 2022. Detroit identified the glaring errors performed by that first company sent by the home warranty agent. There were some difficulties dues to the history initially but Detroit sent Nick and Vasili out today to correct a wrong that their firm did not cause. They were prompt, polite and professional. Before dusting they made sure we were satisfied and provided helpful tips to preserve longevity of our new equipment. I would most certainly recommend Detroit Heating and Cooling if selecting contractors to care for your HVAC system.

I am jealous of all the wonderful reviews because they do not reflect my experience. My initial contact with Detroit Heating and Cooling was May 19th. After being assigned by American Home Shield, they reached out via text to schedule an appointment. The tech arrived, diagnosed the issue, and a return visit was set for two days later to complete the repair. On the return visit, the new part could not be installed, the technician claimed he should be able to return the next day (Sunday) with the proper screws to complete the repair. He did not return. We were not contacted. Apparently replacing the screws was not an option, a new part with screws that would fit was required. A part was located ordered. A new return visit was set. The day of this return visit, I get a call saying they would not be coming. The part was overpowered for my unit. They would submit a report to the warranty company saying the unit is obsolete and requires replacement. I would think that if a part is not available to repair the unit, a professional would be able to make that determination before ordering two parts that would not work. We wait 12 days from the initial diagnosis until it is determined that a replacement part is not available. After a day with no contact from the warranty company, I inquire with them, they are waiting for the report. I call Detroit Heating and Cooling, they did not realize it had been kicked back because it was missing information. This happened twice. The first time, the tech failed to get the information they are internally required to get on every job. The second time because it wasn't entered the way the warranty company expected it. As a vendor working with a warranty company, I would expect you to be able to accurately submit their required documents. 3 days after I was told the report would be submitted within the hour, they still had not received a complete report. It seems like no one is checking for completeness and accuracy. It is also disappointing that it seems no one noticed the report was kicked back until I called to inquire, twice. A 1 Star review got the attention of the owner. He was unaware of our issues. He tried to do what he could to make things right. He admitted they dropped the ball, sent out a portable air conditioner and offered some monetary compensation. My experience is not how they do business. While speaking with him about moving forward he tells me he found a part that should work outside of his normal supply houses. Ultimately, it took longer to arrive than anticipated and did not work. While there the technician identified issues with the furnace and said it needed to be replaced as well. A replacement report or quote could not be given because they did not have a work order for the furnace. On July 2, the new air conditioning unit was installed. The technician turned off the gas to the furnace as-is their policy whenever they find a cracked heat exchanger. Why the tech that identified the crack failed to do so, nobody knows. All around this has been a very frustrating experience. I trusted the opinion of the HVAC professional when allowing the third repair attempt. Had it worked, it would have saved me some money. While I appreciate their attempt to help me out in that regard, my concern was getting the house cooled as quickly as possible. We were not on the same page and I believe I did not communicate my primary objective well enough at that point. Once the replacement was approved, Elijah worked with us on pricing and getting us on the schedule as quickly as possible. I appreciated both. Elijah has been a man of his word and I appreciate that as well. Elijah's commitment to customer satisfaction showed in his actions. He earned the two additional stars.

The AC needed replacing at my daughter's house. Justin and Zack worked into the evening to finish the task. It now works perfectly. They even confirmed that the 28 year old Bryant furnace was in perfect working order and will not need replacing. Her home insurance policy paid for part of the repair.

Joe from Detroit Heating and Cooling was contracted to our home through our home warranty program. He was very knowledgeable and professional. He explained to us what was needed. He then returned as promised the following week and installed the condensation pump. He did a very good job, he was very timely and cleaned up after himself. I also called Detroit Heating and Cooling regarding some questions that I had and Francis the owner answered the phone. He was very polite, reassuring, and answered all my questions. Everything that was promised to us we received. In this world good customer service is rare. But, Francis and Joe at Detroit Heating and Cooling are an exception to the norm today. I would recommend them any day . Thanks Detroit Heating and Cooling
