• I am absolutely thrilled with the whole-home weatherization package completed by 1st Choice Energy. From start to finish, their team demonstrated incredible professionalism, thoroughness, and technical expertise. They completely overhauled my home's efficiency and comfort. Comprehensive Ductwork & HVAC Upgrades The transformation of our airflow is night and day. The team completely redesigned and replaced our old ductwork with highly efficient R8 insulated flex duct, while also installing a brand new supply plenum and a remote plenum. To ensure every room stays at the perfect temperature, they added balancing dampers on each individual duct run for precise airflow adjustments. They meticulously sealed all the ductwork and proved their success by running a comprehensive duct blaster test, verifying our duct leakage dropped to 10% or below. To maximize system performance, they cut in a much-needed new return, replaced the existing return grille, and upgraded all our supply registers to energy-efficient, curved-blade, one-way registers. Attic & AC Efficiency Maintenance Up in the attic, they blew in new fiberglass insulation to bring our thermal resistance up to R38, which has already made a massive difference in keeping our home temperature stable. Outside, they gave our AC condenser a thorough cleaning, insulated the suction line, and blew out the condensate drain line to protect us from future backup issues. Home Sealing & Extra Miles No detail was overlooked when it came to sealing up the rest of the house: ~ Door Weatherstripping: They fully weatherstripped three main entry points—the front door, back door, and garage door completely eliminating drafts. ~ Plumbing Penetrations: They crawled under our sinks and sealed up plumbing penetrations with heavy-duty silicone. ~ Electrical Upgrades: They installed 10 bright, energy-saving LED lightbulbs throughout the house and kindly left us the leftover bulbs they didn't need to use. ~ Safety First: They added a combination Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detector for enhanced home safety. Fantastic Subcontractor Collaboration I also want to give a major shout-out to their subcontractor, Texas Elite Solar Screens. They crafted and installed custom solar screens for the windows on the front and left sides of our home. They look sharp and are already blocking out a ton of radiant heat. I highly recommend 1st Choice Energy to anyone looking to lower their utility bills and dramatically improve their indoor comfort. They are absolute professionals who deliver on their promises!

• I needed to have additional insulation added to my attic and I had a 12/10 experience with 1st Choice (I selected them through Austin Energy's rebate program). After being fumbled by two companies I initially tried to work with, I’m very glad I ended up working with 1st Choice. Bill, my service rep/project manager, was so wonderful to work with. He's honest, communicative, knowledgeable, and transparent. He took the time to explain everything to e clearly so I knew what updates to invest in and why, and never made me feel pressured or rushed into any decisions. Bill came and did an initial audit for the project scope, priced out the project and included a rebate estimate. From there Austin Energy came out and did their own audit prior to project day to confirm the updates happening and the official rebate amount. After insulation was added, Bill and Austin Energy came out to make sure everything was done correctly, and the rebate check is mailed directly to me. The installation crew was professional, efficient, and left everything clean. Overall, the entire experience felt smooth, easy, and well-managed from start to finish. After getting 3 bids from participating contractors, I decided to go with 1st Choice Energy. And I'm very glad I did. Bill was super responsive and great to work with, answering all my questions and concerns over email, text, or phone quickly and thoroughly. The work was completed two days ago by three fine young men (who worked their tails off) and Bill, and I am very pleased with everything. It's so reassuring to know our 1950s-era home is now as air tight as it's every going to be with adequate insulation heading into another Austin summer. If all air conditioning companies would just be honest, professional, and responsive, they might all get my (and everyone's) business. But I'm just lucky I picked the right one, for a change. Initially, we went with 1st Choice Energy because of Bill Cook. He is "the guy"; super knowledgeable, dependable, and very easy to work with, and could not recommend him more highly - in fact, we will not use anyone else! In terms of the overall project, from start to finish, we had a great experience. They were extremely responsive when we initially reached out, and with Bill managing our project, that continued to be the norm. He assessed the one room in our house that was never comfortable and explained the process of how to fix the problem and the science behind why the problem was occurring. His crew leader, Jacob, was also very respectful, and his team was very careful with our repairs and kept our home clean during the install process. The final inspection with the city for the rebates to be paid out passed on the first inspection with no issues. • I found 1st Choice Energy through the City of Austin Energy Rebate Program and I am so thankful I did! When I called for an estimate I was scheduled right away. Bill Cook came to my home and took the estimate. He listened to my concerns with the current system, walked me through the entire process, shared pros and cons of each line item they were recommending (complete with hand drawn diagrams to explain some of the concepts), and shared the timeline/next steps for the process with a loan through the city rebate program. It turns out my 1984-built two-story townhome was a unique case, which was confirmed by the city inspector and a 3rd party audit inspector upon the final inspection (this is a requirement of the city rebate program). Even when things didn’t go exactly as planned (see unique case) Matt and Bill were fair, explained everything, made sure everything was to code, and even suggested the most knowledgeable inspector from the city do my inspection to make sure their solutions were correct and to code. All the folks from 1st Choice Energy were respectful of me and my home and they took care to clean up after their work. As mentioned, my city inspection had a 3rd party auditor. Both the city inspector and 3rd party auditor shared unprompted that the solution 1st Choice Energy came up with was the best and safest they could imagine for my home’s unique set-up. The result has been great so far - I had no worries during the freeze in February, and the airflow balance for the hottest room in the house has been much improved. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend 1st Choice Energy to anyone needing new HVAC and insulation installation and would recommend the City Energy Rebate Program if your home might qualify.

It’s been over a year now so I’ve had a full baking summer and one winter ice event. My 1982 house that had little insulation left in it before 1st Choice fixed everything, stayed SO toasty warm I had to keep checking the thermostat to make sure it wasn’t broken! I stay cooler longer in the summer which helps my electric bill. I highly recommend their services.
