I called College Electric hoping to purchase a furnace filter and support a local business just two blocks away from my home, but I was met with a shockingly condescending employee and a Predatory Sales Tactics. During my inquiry, I spoke with an employee who was intensely condescending and barely allowed me to speak. When I asked about purchasing a filter, the employee initially claimed that they do not sell filters to the public. The employees then engaged in clear fear-mongering tactics, claiming that the filters are incredibly scarce, hard to get, and frequently back-ordered for up to three months. The employee also attempted to justify inflated costs by stating you have to charge for traveling—a ridiculous claim given that my residence is only two blocks away. the employee attempted to force a bundled upsell. I was told that I could buy the filters, but only if I purchased a package of 3 filters for $149.99, and booked a mandatory service call the tune-up for $99.99. This brought the forced grand total to $279.98. To test the validity of his scarcity claims, I drove across town to another local heating and cooling business. I was easily able to purchase a single filter immediately, off the shelf, for $69.48 including tax. Your employee’s contradictions make it clear that the claims of parts shortages and strict public-sale policies were entirely manufactured to bully me into a high-priced service package. I cannot support a local business that uses fear tactics and price gouging to take advantage of its community

College Electric helped us with the installation of our new furnace, hot water tank, and air conditioner, and they did an outstanding job. The team was professional, friendly, and worked efficiently from start to finish. The pricing was great, and everything was done perfectly. We’re really happy with the outcome and highly recommend them.

We have used College Electric/Home Service Plus for years and have always been satisfied with the service we have received. Response times are incredible. Knowledge, experience and skills are incredible. Professionalism and customer-service focus are second to none. And as an added bonus - most recently you guys supported my elderly parents with their Furnace and AC unit replacements. Your patience, kindness and professionalism through that entire experience were so greatly appreciated. Brad and Brandon are fantastic! Thank you!

I would highly recommended any other company. They failed to properly installing the furnaces exhaust by running it through the attic and failing to adequately insulate it. Instead of doing the job right they took whst they say as the cheap/easier way. Which is now lead to thousands of dollars of repairs to my attic and insulation. That could have been easily this well known and documented issue. I would go anywhere else, ANYWHERE.

This company installed my new Furnace and Air Conditioner. They also gave me a complimentary Duct cleaning. They came to do the duct cleaning yesterday and I received the same pleasant quality service that I had received previously. They went above and beyond what they needed to do. Thank you Jordan and Brendon. Why would I call any one else.

Booked College Electric to disconnect and cap the gas line from our broken dryer. Technician showed up and gave us a quote only, even though I told them we wanted to proceed already with the work when I booked the appointment. I had to book another appointment for a week later after speaking to Rob, office manager. He just made excuses for the poor communication on his company's behalf, while doing nothing to make the improve the situation. Finally after 2 weeks of no dryer, the technician came down and did the work today, and while he was friendly I was charged $300 for the 10 - 15 minutes it took him to complete the job. Will never use or recommend College Electric due to terrible customer service and high prices which is sad since they came recommended by a friend.

The individual who visited our location displayed great courtesy and assistance. Nevertheless, this company employs outdated payment methods, which resulted in me spending extra time rectifying their error. Moreover, the phone messages urging me to correct their mistake were far from polite. As a result, I have decided not to engage with this company in the future.

College Electric is a Sham and run by con artists that like to take advantage of elderly and just about every customer that has the misfortune of calling them. As you can see the reviews of this company are not good and there is a reason for that! We had the AC unit "cleaned" last month and had to have another company come in to correct what they DID NOT DO! They charged $100+ to come into my house and do NOTHING! A week after the cleaning, i had a leak. I advised the property manager, as there was already another plumbing company on site, she asked them to have a look and report on the leak. After the $100+ service charge, here is what was still wrong with my AC: . - Evap pan drain elbow was super loose so i resealed that. - suction line was exposed through flex so it was condensating so i taped it closed. - Evap coil is super dirty - Filter is wrong size for downflow unit and doesn't cover whole plenum. THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING LISTED WOULD HAVE BEEN AN EXTRA CHARGE?? IF NONE OF THESE ITEMS WERE A PART OF THE SERVICE. WHAT DID I PAY FOR!! I have used them every year for this service and others, and this is how they treated me?? BLATANTLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME AND MY FRIENDS FOR YEARS!! I AM DONE AND WILL MAKE SURE THAT EVERYBODY I KNOW IS ALSO!!

We retained College Electric (also doing business as Home Service Plus) to replace a hot water tank, furnace and air conditioner last June. The installation failed a Manitoba Hydro inspection last September. College Electric (Home Service Plus) replaced a hot water tank to remedy that failed inspection in September. In May, the hot water tank installation again failed a Manitoba Hydro inspection. When I informed College Electric of this, I was met with skepticism initially, but after reviewing the file, they admitted that there was a problem worker who did the installation for me who had since been fired and said they'd take care of it. They were supposed to come visit my home today to verify non-compliance and arrange for all non-compliance to be fixed so that Hydro's third inspection would lead to acceptance of the work. However, College Electric failed to show up. When I complained, the representative stated that due to matters beyond her control, they would have to reschedule. When I expressed dissatisfaction, I was given some serious attitude. The deadline for compliance with Manitoba Hydro is fast approaching, and we are no closer to resolution. I just want College Electric / Home Service Plus to just do the job correctly so I can move on with my life and never have to deal with them again. A year later, my hot water tank should not still be awaiting approval from Manitoba Hydro's inspectors. Do Better, College Electric / Home Service Plus.

Very impressed with this company. Starting with Riley, who came to do the quote for our new hi efficiency furnace, air conditioner and electric water tank. Out of four companies that we received quotes from Riley was able to explain absolutely everything about our options and definitely was very knowledgable. The price could not be beat. Rob, the lead hand and Ely arrived around 9:30 am and Steve and Ryan came later to assist with the job and to ensure that the job was completed before 6 pm. Rob made sure that the furnace and electric water tank were positioned to allow us more room in our furnace room. This was our first hi efficiency furnace so all new lines had to be installed for both the furnace and a/c and we were converting from a gas to an electric water tank so new wiring was necessary as well. All four men were extremely friendly and a pleasure to have in our home. My wife and I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

The service techs came to install a new furnace. My son was home and I was volunteering. I came home before they attached the exhaust to the outside of the house. They did not show me what it would look like or where it would come out when I spoke to them before the install. I thought the vent would look more like a dryer vent. As soon as the vent was put out the back of my house, I told the techs immediately that is was not okay. It was too low. Kids can put anything down it! It’s perfect for a 2-3 year old to reach. I cannot put a screen over it. I also told the techs that it was too close to my back door. The next morning it was -30 and the steam from the furnace vent FROZE the door shut. The techs said it would be overtime to move it and would have to call for approval. I asked them why they put it out back when either side of the house would have been safer. The tech then told me that I was right and they should have put it to the carport side. The furnace room has an open ceiling and it would have been quite easy. When I called back multiple times to find out if they could move the piping, I was told it’s another $500!!!!!! The furnace was $6700.00 and now they want another $500 to move the exhaust to where they should have put it in the first place!!!!!! I feel like a woman that went to get her car fixed and paid for things that didn’t need to be done!!!!! I paid for the liner that needs to go in my chimney and it has not been done yet either. I am not happy!!!!!

Right from the start was a great experience. Technician who came was very courteous and knowledgeable. Had no heat, he inspected all components in my furnace to made sure there were running at peak performance, found the problem, repaired it and now I got heat, thanks. Will recommend this company!!

I got my furnace servicing done in november. Today my furnace was not working and when i called them they sent a technician who had no clue how to fix it. And without fixing they again charged me 139 dollars.I am never using their services ever again. Thoroughly non professional people with no values.

Had a electrical fire in an outlet, called early in the am and a tech was dispatched within a couple of hours, also received numerous follow up calls from the office advising on what to do and making sure we were safe. Great Company

Waited 2 weeks for my appointment only for them not to show up. I'd taken a day off work to wait for them. When called out on the no show, receptionist blamed me, and told me it'd be another 2 weeks before I could get another appointment. Not impressed in the least.
