He came out for a seasonal maintenance check on our AC unit.I appreciated that his diagnostics were completely honest and transparent. Shawn didn't try to push any urgent, expensive repairs. Instead, he honestly showed me the parts that will eventually need attention (the capacitor and contactor), noting that they are working perfectly fine for now. He did an excellent job with the maintenance, fully cleaning the outdoor unit and flushing the drain line. Special thanks for the detailed and clear consultation on improving our home climate. Shawn completely broke down the difference between installing a smart Ecobee thermostat with room sensors versus a full mechanical duct zoning system. • When it comes to finding companies to investigate when things are going wrong, especially with something as critical as AC in the middle of the summer, I always have a bit of trepidation in calling a company for which I don't have personal recommendation. Even when said company has plenty of 4 and 5 star reviews, if I don't have an personal experience with whatever they are troubleshooting/repairing, I wonder if the money I will pay will be money well spent and if I will be pressured into buying a product or service I don't need. If that's you, hopefully this review will help calm your nerves. From beginning to end, I had a pleasant experience with Degree Above. My AC went out late in the day on 22 Jul. Originally they had to schedule me for an appointment on 24 Jul due to adverse weather on 23 Jul, but when a break in the weather came, they were able to get a technician out to troubleshoot what was going on. Upon arrival, Shawn asked me to detail what the "symptoms" were, took a look at my system settings (and provided recommendations of how to more optimally set the system once operable again), and then took a look at my outside unit to pinpoint the issue. Ultimately my blower motor had failed, a repair that would have cost ~$2500. However, Shawn didn't stop looking for issues there, instead identifying several other components (complete with pictures, explanations of how they operate and evidence they were getting ready to fail) which were on the verge of failure, which would have cost several more trips out for Degree Above and several thousand more dollars. He then walked me through all my options, from just replacing the blower motor to a full unit replacement. I ultimately decided on the full replacement, but at no point did I feel pressured into making the most expensive purchase. Before Shawn left, he got me scheduled for the unit replacement at the earliest possible date (27 Jul) and even threw in a window AC unit to help keep my room more comfortable while waiting for the full system replacement. In the end, I'm very comfortable with the experience I had with Degree Above. Shawn was knowledgeable, thoroughly, explained what was wrong and all the options for repair, but did not pressure me in one direction or another, instead allowing me to make the decision. Additionally, Degree Above ensured the replacement happened as quickly as possible and returned the next day to ensure everything was working as expected. I'm very satisfied with my experience with Degree Above, will be calling them for any HVAC problems in the future and highly recommend them to anyone else having HVAC issues.
